Voluntary Separation Incentive Program for Retirement (VSIP)

University of Kansas – Lawrence and Edwards Campus

Voluntary Separation Incentive Program for Retirement

As part of the University’s continuing efforts to operate more efficiently and prioritize funding, we are adopting a Voluntary Separation Incentive Program for Retirement (VSIP). The VSIP is available to eligible KU-Lawrence and Edwards campus employees. The VSIP is intended to prioritize our funding towards investment in the goals and strategies identified by the KU community in Bold Aspirations, our strategic plan.

In general, each faculty or staff member who separates from KU in accordance with the VSIP will receive a lump-sum cash payment equal to 100% of the faculty or staff member’s annual base salary up to a maximum gross amount of $100,000 as of May 15, 2012, less required payroll deductions.

For complete information on the lump-sum payout and information on which employees are eligible, view the VSIP Guidelines.

Pursuant to the Older Workers' Benefit Protection Act of 1990 and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, eligible faculty and staff are advised to contact an attorney and tax advisor at their own expense to discuss the VSIP and to review the Separation Agreement if they so desire.

A VSIP FAQs is provided to answer a number of questions. If you have additional questions, consult with your HR staff or e-mail vsip@ku.edu.
